Since the launch of the app, it's been obvious to all users that the main action expected from users to do is not obvious, creating a post. Here is an idea to allow for another way to create a post, which keeping the existing one, from the map (longpress)
Add a '+' fob at the bottom of the mapview, and home page, blue, white +, easy to see, floating on top of anything else.
On press, display a pop-up (maybe full screen), asking user to select what they want to create, a request, suggestion or appreceation.
Once they select, they are shown a full page of icons available to them to select from for the post category
If the post category is one that is linked to a location on a map (not all are, such as administrative requests), they go straight to typing the text, adding picture, selecting privacy and submitting.
If the post category does leave a POI on the map (as most do), we direct the user to the map (if they are not already on the map, allow them to move the pin to where they want to post to be, then, once confirmed, they go back to step 4.
Here is a screenshot of how Waze offers users to select post types, and I think it would be great if we inspired ourselves from that.
